Leigh Poole Coordinator NP University of Alabama
Dr. Leigh Ann Chandler Poole is a nationally certified Family Nurse Practitioner with a PhD in Nursing. She is the Coordinator of the Nurse Practitioner Concentration: Mental Health and Primary Care for Rural Populations, at The University of Alabama. Dr. Poole specializes in rural health, telemedicine and online education. She is the owner and CEO of three companies, is an expert in grant writing and operations, interprofessional collaboration, policy and politics, informatics, curriculum and program development, strategic planning, evaluation, and accreditation. Dr. Poole is currently serving on the workgroup revising the Scope and Standards for Nursing Informatics for the American Nurses Association. She recently received funding from HRSA for $997,173 over the next three years as the Project Director for a grant utilizing telemedicine, which is titled Advancing Nursing Education: Interprofessional Collaboration addressing Multiple Chronic Conditions in Rural Communities. Dr. Poole is a well-known expert and invited speaker on telemedicine. She served as a consultant on telemedicine for the Governor of Alabama during the start of up the Alabama Partnership for Telehealth. She has an extensive history of committee involvement at the local, state, national, and international levels. Dr. Poole is a member of the American Telemedicine Association serving as Vice Chair for the Telehealth Nursing SIG, is a member of the National Organization of Nurse Practitioner Faculties, National League for Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International, American Nursing Association, and served as an Ambassador for the National Health Service Corps.
