Moving Health Services from Hospital to Home:  How to Scale? How to Deploy?
Monday, December 3 - 4:15 - 5:30 PM

Session Overview

Mobile and connected health devices deliver the promise of delivering the scale benefits of the consumer electronics industry to healthcare.  This discussion will provide an overview of the utility of the connectivity standards framework developed by Continua Health Alliance and focus on the deployment of connected devices in the real world of monitoring patients at home.

The healthcare system must serve a constantly increasing demand for services by an increasing population of aging and chronically ill individuals.  Technology offers the promise of helping to satisfy these demands by moving diagnostic and monitoring services from expensive settings into the home.  In an ideal world, healthcare would benefit from the virtuous cycle of the consumer electronics sector where customers enjoy products that, over time, become both better and cheaper.  Hospitals and patients do not live in an ideal world.  This discussion will provide insights from innovators in healthcare about how to use mobile health products to obtain the benefits of scale in healthcare services.
