Cigna Innovation Health Challenge
Wednesday, December 5 - 1:30 - 6:00 PM

$30,000 Health Data Innovation Challenge

Cigna® is introducing a new web application programming interface (“API”) that allows customers to share real-time health data across multiple third-party applications. With this new Cigna Health API, developers can envision and implement mobile health and wellness applications built on top of Cigna’s data and supporting services. At the center of our approach is our customers – we’re providing them transparency and allowing them to manage how and with whom their data is shared.
To offer a sneak peek of the Cigna Health API, Cigna is hosting an Innovation Challenge at the 2012 mHealth Summit on December 5, 2012 from 1 to 6pm, with a total of $30,000 in prize money

what We're Looking For

Teams of creative folks (technical and non-technical) banding together to develop an application concept to creatively demonstrate 1) how leveraging Cigna’s data can support an individual’s health journey and 2) why a customer would use this solution on an on-going basis.  We will look for effective and extensive use of the Cigna Health API and want to see how your application can drive healthy behavior using our basic services and data capabilities.
The goal is not necessarily to create an end-to-end working application in the short amount of time during the Innovation Challenge … instead, focus on the differentiating features in your solution and emphasize them.  We are looking for a well thought-out solution, so be careful about spending valuable time on simple supporting features (Ex: log in/log out buttons). Also, don’t stress about getting all form fields to work – we want to know (and see) what is at the core of your user’s experience. That’s the important stuff.

Evaluation Criteria for Judging

  1. Originality – 30%
  2. Technical creativity – 20%
  3. Business impact – how well this solution solves the problem stated  - 20%
  4. I-got-to-use-this factor – 15%
  5. Use of API – variety and depth of data used to drive the application – 15%
You’ll have 5 minutes at the end of the event to present your innovation and take Q & A.

If you’re up to the challenge, then build your team and register today. Participants might include software architects, developers, designers, business/solution analysts with experience (or interest) in developing mobile health solutions, and innovators of all types.
Once you register for the event, you’ll be able to read and review the available APIs and start planning and conceptualizing your app. Between November 26-December 2, you’ll be able to submit your app concept for review. We only have space for 6 finalist teams to participate in the Challenge at the mHealth Summit, and we’ll announce those finalists at the start of the Health Innovation Challenge on December 5th – so make sure you’re team is there!
After you’ve registered, we’ll be in touch with more info.
Even if you’re not participating in the Innovation Challenge, stop down to watch the event and introduce yourself, we’d still love to make your acquaintance!
