Medical Device Interoperability: Getting Patient Safety Right
Tuesday, December 4 - 5:00 - 6:15 PM
Session Overview
A multi-disciplinary panel of experts will share the clarion themes and priority follow up issues from the October 2-3 AAMI-FDA summit on interoperability in and around medical devices. The summit's focus is on getting patient safety right, so this session will have a patient safety angle related to the integration of medical devices. These clarion themes and priority follow up issues will have been developed and agreed upon by the multi-disciplinary stakeholders who participate in the summit, but the entire healthcare community needs to become committed to and adept at addressing these issues in order for integration to become a practical, usable and safe reality in healthcare. These issues are becoming essential as the healthcare community now moves to device integration for the next levels of meaningful use. Tackling these issues now, on the front end of that process, will benefit the entire healthcare community.
Session Objectives
- Understand the patient safety issues that need to be addressed when designing mobile technology or planning system integration involving mobile devices
- Understand the potential landmines with device integration, in anticipation of next stages of meaningful use
- Have an opportunity to identify additional issues that may not have been considered at the summit, suggest additional research gaps that need to be addressed, and know how they can address some of the summit's priority issues in their own organizations.
